I’ll keep this brief. This trial is about drug dealers and serious criminals, I don’t think it is in the best interest of the jurors for you to give their personal information out about them, everything except for their name. This is in very poor taste and I believe very unprofessional. Why do we care that someone is a hairdresser and that a client of theres has something to do with the case.
It is important that the jury is related to the trial because Elijah deserves a fair case and that wont be fair if 1 juror can persude other and that could be the case here. You talk about the death penalty a lot what about the effects of the death penalty to the family of Elijah??
Pryde beat me to the point and did a good job articulating exactly what was in my head. To put it very bluntly, this is a situation where 12 normal people could decide whether a man lives or dies. I think people want to know who is being given the chance to make that call.
Also, to clear up one thing, Chris, the juror you refer to knows Norma Kauzlazrich, who IS a prosecutor in the State’s Attorney’s office. However, she does NOT have anything to do with this case.
Are you reporting anything that happen on thursday?
Pryde: All my daily stories can be found at http://www.qconline.com. Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/bill_mayeroff. I post some updates there, too.
I’m not finding anything about what happened on Friday at all. It is now 1:09 and there isn’t even a story to read other than what was posted last night at 7:11 PM
Missing: Thanks for letting me know. Sadly, I don’t control when my midday updates get posted. I simply write them and call an editor to let them know. That said, 2:58 p.m. is way too late to post a midday update, especially considering I had it written by 12:30 p.m. Friday.
By the way … to all of you … Thanks for reading and commenting.
The Reid family seem to really be supportive. have they been at the trial since the begining? How have you been interpreting this trail? I have been following you since this trial began and you are doing a great job with telling whats going on thank you.
Thanks, Pryde. The Reid family – or at least some of them – have been at the trial every day. His family is apparently huge and those that have been around have driven from Chicago.
As far as how I’m interpreting, I’m not sure what you mean. If you’re asking whether I can predict the outcome, well, I cannot.
But I think it’s going along and it’s been fascinating from end to end. And if it goes longer, it will only get more interesting.
Mr. Mayeroff, thank you for your daily updates of this trial. What impresses me the most is that you honestly portray an unbiased picture. I would like to respond to another reader’s question about the cigarette in the car, along with Mr. Reid testifying that his associate is the one that shot those guys. Wouldn’t you expect that under the circumstances, occupation of ‘drug dealer’, and now being charged with murder, that the possibility of this man saying ANYTHING he can, to avoid the death penalty is a possibility, TRUTH or NOT? What does he have to LOSE by LYING? Absolutely nothing. The cigarette I wouldn’t believe to be a big factor, I would think the focus should be on the weapon, which I would hope ballistics tests were taken to depict the weapon submitted as evidence is, in fact, the weapon used to kill those guys. I’ve been on a jury, although not of this magnitude and I believe I’m pretty open minded as to waiting until all evidence was submitted. The cigarette now, in comparison to the other evidence, seems quite irrelevant, could’ve been put there at any time. Thank you again for following this trial and posting the proceedings. I hope you’ll continue your work!
This case is really getting deep. If they all admitted they were all going to to rob these guys why they not on trial also they were all planning to commit a crime and something went wrong when someone shot these two men, Elijah is the only one that is being charged with murder? I saw the jury and I have to say that Elijah is not getting a fair trial in that city, his lawyer should have requested to move the trial so he would at least have a better pick of the jury. Why these other guy’s didn’t have to answer to any other charges? that is really crazy.
well I guess that is it!!!!
